During segregation, O.H. Herman High School was the only school for Black students in Van Vleck, Texas. Individuals from surrounding small, rural communities of Allenhurst, Ashwood, Live Oak, Cedar Lane, and Cedar Lake attended school here until integration pushed Black students across the tracks to Van Vleck High School.
The O.H. Herman Alumni Association of Matagorda County, Texas is a 501(c)3 organization based in Van Vleck, Texas.
